All the feelings are wrapped up in this picture! As we were doing the video across the street at the new house, I could see our current house across the street. Starting a new renovation project is daunting and standing in the middle of the new house and imagining all the work that has to be done was intimidating. And in that moment of fear, I saw in my mind this "Before" and "After" picture and knew I had to recreate it.
I was instantly reminded that rather than feeling overwhelming, a new house project can feel like exciting anticipation: expecting sweet stories and history and lives that will take place in the very mess of a demolished house now. That what was a very lonely fireplace in our first house is now decorated with four stockings representing lives that are being changed because of access to safe housing and appropriate services. That all the work ahead of us is a drop in the bucket to get to feel the full heart that overflows with love and joy and real life that is happening at our first house.
What a difference 2 years makes in a renovation project, and we refuse to sit on the sidelines and watch other people make the difference we want to see in the world. Will you join us on this new journey? It's bound to be a little messy and full of twists and turns, but I have proof now that it is worth it all.
