Our team talks a lot about what healing takes. It starts with safe housing. But it requires more than that. It takes a community that shows up. Trauma-informed resources. Time, and people who stay.
This year, we wanted you to hear it from someone else.
Her Words is a collection of reflections from the women who live, heal, and grow at Haven Homes of Detroit. Some words are about beginnings. Some are about what comes after. All of them are hers, shared with permission and on her terms.
We hope you'll read them slowly. That her words will touch you. And we hope you'll stand with her again this year.

I would tell women at HHD that it's ok to take your time and you are allowed to find your own process. But don't allow fear to keep you bound in the trauma you knew.
Haven Homes of Detroit helped me learn how to change old habits of living for a new way of life.
If you complete the program and you stay ten-toes down in the program, you'll be reaping the fruits of your labor when you finish the program
You have to change your environment. You can't be expecting to find a new way of life while you're still hanging out with Pookie and Ray Ray
