Learning more about human trafficking
As we continue to work on putting our housing programming together, we find ourselves talking more and more about what human trafficking is and what it is not with people who are supporting HHD. Human trafficking is a very complex topic that requires care and sensitivity in learning and talking about it. There are so many myths floating around that actually do more harm to survivors and perpetuate some of the more harmful stereotypes that make it difficult to actually create meaningful change.
At the heart of our mission is the statement "We believe in the dignity of all people". This idea extends to how we talk about this topic, how we represent people who will live in our homes, and how we teach others about human trafficking. Our favorite site that is extremely reputable is The Polaris Project. See below for four important facts about human trafficking that help us all better understand this topic.
