Residential Coach

Type of Position: Contingent position with flexible hours (AM Shift 7:00-2:00 and PM Shift 4:00-8:30) and occasional weekend availability (Sat/Sun from 9am-3pm) including at least one Sunday per month.

Overview ​​
Haven Homes of Detroit, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, operates two transitional homes in Detroit that provide
housing and trauma-informed support for up to eight adult female survivors of human trafficking
and/or commercial sexual exploitation, with plans to expand to additional homes. The mission of
Haven Homes of Detroit is to empower women to heal from the trauma of trafficking and exploitation
by providing safe housing, creating supportive communities, removing barriers to resources, and
equipping them with the skills they need to reclaim their lives and create a brighter future. Residential
Coaches work alongside the Program Director, Program Coordinator, and Lead Residential Specialist
to implement best practices for trauma-informed care and execute standards of residential care and
therapeutic programming for survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.

Primary Responsibilities of Position:
• Assist with implementation of programs and daily activities (i.e., hygiene, nutrition, chores, life skills groups, sobriety support meetings, etc.).
• Provide support to residents through direct care services.
• Responsible for transporting residents to and from scheduled appointments, school, recovery meetings, and other offsite community activities as needed. Must have valid ID, registration, insurance and willingness to drive residents in your own vehicle.
• Complete required documentation for each shift.
• Ensure all policies and protocols are being followed and documented to create safety and stability for all residents.
• Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends regarding Human Trafficking, Substance Addiction and Recovery, Trauma-Informed Care, and related topics.

Required Attributes, Credentials, and Experience:
• Must embrace the mission of Haven Homes of Detroit and live out compassion for all people with a passion for working with victims of sexual trafficking, prostitution, and addictions.
• Ability to work with women who have experienced severe trauma.
• Experience working with survivors of Human Trafficking/Commercial Sexual Exploitation.
• Strong ability to self-regulate emotions during a crisis or intense emotional situations.
• Flexible schedule
• Strong abilities to communicate through verbal and written word.

Preferred Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree (in-process) in Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, related field or related life experience
• Understanding of trauma informed care, sobriety support, and physical, mental, and sexual abuse
